Anybody who attends this school, did you need a very high GPA and Standarized test scores?

I did not attend this collage. I went to UCLA. But most Universities like this one do require that you have a GPA of at least 3.5 and pretty high scores on your STS's. I am sure they have a web site. I would do a goggle or ask.com search and find their web site. That way you can find out their requirements.

Hi there...UW is a competitive school so it definately helps to have higher SAT test scores as well as a strong overall GPA. Preference is given to those also who have participated in extracurricular activities which benefitted the community concurrently with a difficult study course load. Each department major also tends to be competitive as well ...for example the nursing school has been #1 for the past 15 years so preference to those who apply must have a 4.0 GPA. Business Administration deparment also has a high GPA requirement, etc. Please review the following website link to learn what UW looks for in prospective students: http://admit.washington.edu/BeforeYouApply/Freshman/Trends

I have my BA from there; yes, you should be fine. You have a lot of extra curricular activities, great SATs and GPA. You shouldn't have a problem. Some people think that as long as they have the grades, they are in. That is sooo way off! Schools want to know that you are well-rounded and can possibly contribute to other things, rather than just academia. The volunteer work you have done is great, especially if what you volunteered in is something you wish to continue in college (if you are interested in biology or medicine, etc). Good luck! It;s a very stressful time waiting to see if you get in. I know the feeling!
2 :
i too graduated from there. it is a good school, but your record looks pretty good too. i would expect you to get in U dub. good luck.
3 :
Yes, I got in with a 3.5 and a 1600. Everything else just makes you look STELLAR.

University of Washington - Seattle anyone?

University of Washington - Seattle anyone?
I'm considering applying for University of Washington - Seattle and I was wondering if anyone who's attended / or is attending could tell me about the school. Pros/cons. What's nice about it there and what I need to know as a precaution maybe. Anything would be great. Thank you so much! Oh and talking about the appyling process would also be helpful. As in, what they're really looking for in an application and any hints, etc. And what sort of essay they want written. =D I'm a junior in high school. =D

The campus is in the middle of a city, so there is a lot of crime. Students don't go out at night alone, even the guys (unless they're stupid and trying to be macho). There have been several muggings in the area lately. Also traffic in that neighborhood is kind of a nightmare pretty much all the time- so a lot of people walk everywhere. That said- it's a BEAUTIFUL area, it's a terrific school, and there is a ton of fun things to do around, no matter what you're interested in. Are you from the Seattle area or are you from out of state?
2 :
Ha, I just got accepted there for fall quarter next year myself. You should definitely apply, It's a public ivy and is a good value if you're from in state. I think in their application process now they're starting to focus more on more on things like extracurricular activities in high school and important interests on you. Also, they're pretty big on diversity, and if your essay incorporates some of that in your life it should be a plus. there's this website, theu.com that has pretty a lot of videos and ratings about schools like UW, I found it pretty entertaining and informative enough. You should check that out. p.s. I think that it might be too late to apply for fall quarter next year if that was what you were plannin though

There are no wrestling schools in Seattle or even in the State of Washington. If you don't believe me, go to Wikipedia and type in "list of professional wrestling schools".
2 :
There are traning classes...then there are wrestling classes...then there are generic training schools...and then there are wrestling school DYNASTIES. I don't know if there are any in Seattle Washington...I wouldn't think so since I can't think of any wrestlers FROM Seattle Washington off the top of my head. But even if there were...it wouldn't be worth it. Do you want to be trained to wrestle or do you want to be trained to be SPECIAL in the wrestling world. If you want the best training...you're gonna have to travel. If you don't have at least a semi-known/respected WRESTLER train you...then you've essentially learned how to daydream. Examples of the Wrestling Teacher's You'll Need To Be Special: Scott D'Amore Lance Storm Dory Funk If you wanna learn serious wrestling...you need to go to Canada...that's where the big guns go. I've got a buddy that trained under Lance Storm...i've seen videos...i'd go to his. If you wanna learn more about his then just go to: www.stormwrestlingacademy.com I've been to many independent promotions as a fan...and i've worked in a few as a wrestling manager (ya know...the guys like James Mitchell and Armando Estrada), and lemme tell you firsthand...i've seen guys that were sloppily trained wrestle...then i've seen CM Punk wrestle...and there IS most definantly a difference.

Does University of Wisconsin-Madison have a better pre-med program than University of Washington-Seattle?
UW-madison is ranked 35 for undergrad, while UW-seattle is ranked 41. However, UW-madison's medical school is ranked 27 while UW-seattle is ranked 6. so, which would be the better option for pre-med?

Rank is important, but you need to go to a school that will ultimately fit you. Do a little research... the teachers you'd be taking classes from at each of these schools..... what are their specialties? Do these line up with what kind of medicine that you eventually want to practice? Wisconsin and Washington are VERY different places. Do you want to live in a big city? Or in a town where the college IS the town? Good luck!

What are my chances of being accepted into the University of Washington, Seattle?

What are my chances of being accepted into the University of Washington, Seattle?
In 9th grade I ended the school year with a 3.2 In 10th grade I ended the school year with a 3.1 I am currently in 11th grade and my GPA is a 3.0, I am hoping to get my GPA up to a 3.6 by the end of the year and next year I am doing PSEO or a dual credit Program. I have taken Honors English, College Psychology, and College Sociology. I am involved in Gymnastics, Track and Field, coaching gymnastics through Community Education, Business Professionals of America, Link Crew, High School Fall Musical/Play, and church mission trips. I have volunteered at 2 nursing homes since I was eight years old and I have a job at a restaurant and am looking to Transfer into the hospital kitchen area. I want to get into the nursing program and I am very dedicated to things I am interested in. I am an out of state student and I will be financially dependant on myself. I also volunteer at my church. What else can I do to better my chances of getting accepted, it means so much to me to be accepted here. If i don't get accepted what other good schools in Seattle would I most likely be accepted to?

The average GPA needed for the University of Washington is 3.72. It will be very difficult , if not impossible for you to raise your GPA to even 3.6 with the high school time that you have remaining. You can at least partially make up this deficit by doing very well on your SAT. You should begin preparing for it now./

Should I keep going to school for generals or just get a 2 year technical degree?
Hey Im 20 years old and I am going to school for generals right now, but I was thinking of just getting a two year degree in something. I was thinking a real estate appraiser. I found a two year program in Seattle Washington. Would this be a good job? Should I just get my AA first in general studies and transfer? I still have about another year or two to get my generals done for a AA Liberal Arts transfer degree. Thanks.

For my opinion, I think that you should finish getting your generals now, that you have started and just need a few years to finish and then transfer:) but again, you should think also was best for you:)
2 :
I would look into how your credits would transfer. Schools vary on what is required for each degree and it can be a pain in the butt. I transferred in the middle of earning my Associates because of money issues and wound up having to take more classes because some credits didn't transfer at all, others were placed in different categories, and two other classes were required by my new school. If you already have your degree you won't have to worry about transferring credits.

Relocating: Chicago to Seattle? University of Washington?

Relocating: Chicago to Seattle? University of Washington?
I've lived in Chicago my entire life, and am now a rising high school senior. I've been encouraged to check out the Univerisity of Washington- Seattle, and I'm wondering about the school itself and the city. What can I expect if I make the transition? I'm specifically wondering about how the costs of living, job markets (I'm going to work towards a BSN), and overall cultures of the city compare. (any info on the music scenes?) thanks!

UW is awesome! Great school, great teachers and nice people. Seattle is amazing. I'm 17 and plan on going to UW as well and I know many people there, have lived here my whole life. We do a lot of outdoors things like kayaking, hiking, biking, and anything on the water. Nightlife is good and the soccer, baseball, football and hockey games are always a blast. Cost of living downtown is very expensive....BUT there are tons of college students who buy a large house and room up to 6 people and you can rent a room for a couple hundred a month. Oh and there is many job openings in Seattle and more up North (Stay away from Tacoma no jobs). As for music scene it's really good too. Lots of concerts and stuff going on at Everett Event Center and it's so much fun to take a trip to the Gorge for outdoor concerts and camping then head down to the river. Also of course live entertainment in certain places of the city. Good luck :)
2 :
I completely agree with the other poster as far as information about the Seattle area. I've lived in the Seattle area my entire life and will be moving away for school pretty soon. I'll really miss Washington! I just graduated from UW-Seattle and I really loved it. The campus itself is really pretty, but I think the best part of going to the school was all of the research opportunities available to students (especially health-related research!) The medical center/health sciences building is just across the street south of campus, and I know a lot of people that work on research or volunteer between their classes. If you get a BSN, you shouldn't have any trouble getting a job after you graduate. As far as downsides, the classes (especially intro classes) tend to be HUGE, but this is true of most larger universities. Also, in most of the lower-level classes, the grades are definitely not inflated! UW grades in increments of 0.1 and generally classes are graded on a curve. I found that in big lecture classes, it was almost impossible to get a 4.0 (though not impossible to get a 3.7 or 3.8) - and I ended high school with a 4.0 GPA! However, the nursing school at UW takes this into consideration so I wouldn't worry about either of these drawbacks too much. It's just something to know before you go.

I hate to tell you this, my dear, but Seattle has a HUGE homeless population. Most of them are young. I'll bet they had the same idea you and your friend have, when they arrived. The best way to move is this: SAVE SOME MONEY!!! Work for a while somewhere else, and save every dime you possibly can. Do a lot of research into rental prices and cost-of-living in the different Seattle neighborhoods. In other words -- plan carefully and responsibly. Let me tell you: the real estate is NOT cheap there!! You might want to consider an area outside of the city...well outside!
2 :
Don't do it! Socal is WAY the hell cooler, nicer, and more fun than Seattle. You also would have a lot better opportunities for opening a business.

Seattle University vs. Washington State University business undergrad?

i went to WSU and took a couple classes in the business school because it was also required for my major, but i honestly don't know how good the school actually is compared to Seattle U. I know that it is getting harder and more competitive to get into the business school at WSU - they raised the GPA and they've made study abroad a "requirement" (or you can take extra classes to override the requirement... thus not really making it a requirement, lol). but my 2 cents is that if you're looking for anything big business related, seattle is the place to be just because really it offers more opportunity while you're in school. not saying that people that graduate from WSU don't do as good or dont find jobs just as easily... but going to school in seattle provides you the opportunity to try to find internships at a wide variety of big companies and corporations while you're in school. at WSU you can't really do internships while you're at school there or even work or volunteer at any reputable companies because, well, there aren't any in pullman. i do have a friend whose roommate is a business major at seattle u and she really likes it. one of her projects i think she said involved actually making your own business or marketing a product or something in the seattle area and really actually making and selling stuff like a real business. don't know what class it was for or if they had any business classes as wsu that actually go out and do that type of thing. she also mentioned that her roommate had internships each summer at major companies here and elsewhere in the country... don't know if thats just because she's really smart and ambitious or if seattle u really pushes it more than wsu. i wasn't a business major, but my major is still one that sort of requires an internship to get anywhere in the business and i regret going to wsu over a university in seattle. just because it made it that much more difficult to try and do an internship in seattle especially since i wasn't from around seattle and knew nothing about the city, had to roommates, etc and that would've been completely different had i gone to school there and been semi-established in the city.

It was amazing and wonderful to know that they even remembered me after all those by gone years.

Look! A genuine Seattle liberal dipshit. The military isn't brainwashing anyone. It's you butt-plug marriage, tofu-eating,tree hugger types doing that. You people got the young generation so confused that they don't even know which gender they are anymore.
9 :
What are you? A member of code pink? You are disgrace. The military protects that very freedom you wish to destroy. I suggestion you live in the middle east and see if you feel the same way.

Good luck. The public "education" system is owned and controlled by the same NWO that controls the military. There's not much you can do... except keep your kids out of that Pavlovian conditioning facility. And don't sweat the ignorant who will attack you for even bringing up this subject. The ACLU hates America too so you should talk to them. The "illegal" war was authorized by Congress and backed by 20 U.N. resolutions that called for military action should Saddam defy them, which he did. Nothing illegal about it. Perhaps you're the one who's brainwashed.

Its our military that protects your rights to write stupid questions like this. My children are looking forward to joining the service. I wish them the best. They are only in the 8th and 6th grade. They have not been influenced by any recruiter.
18 :
I think you are mistaken the US Military for the UN they are the ones raping kids in Africa. These brave women and men put there lives on the line so people like you have the freedom to shoot your mouths off . These women and men are not forced to join they do it out of pride for their country . Is`nt seattle a city a few years ago beat a innocent Military guy home for a little R & R and the people that beat him just left him lying on the streets matter a fact they ganged up on the guy out numbering him. Here this man survived being shoot at at only to get beaten by a bunch of anti war cowards.
19 :
You are an idiot. The military and recruiters are there to talk to whoever's interested. If you don't wanna talk to them you don't have to. Btw you could probably give Bill Ayers a call I'm sure he'd love to help. Maybe you two could go bomb a couple buildings then go hang out with the president! Idiot.

These requirements are contained in § 9528 of the ESEA (20 U.S.C. § 7908), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (P.L. No. 107-110), the education bill Congress recently passed. I totally agree with you this is a disgrace to run such recruiting campaigns at public schools selling the war crap to 18 - years old kids. Here is a link with things you can do about it. - find other colleges - opt out from military recruiting. - refuse to give your information to the military (there is a law in your favor here) - Write to your school officials and state senators - Never vote again for a democrat or a republican
27 :
Forget it. What you want just isn't going to happen. Personally I think Military service should be mandatory for ALL citizens.
28 :
Concerned OR a radical Liberal that would sell American secrets to bin Laden for a quarter? You want a suggestion? If you're going to try to take military out of schools you might want to approach them without going on your insane rant about "illegal wars, torture and rape". I am offended by your statements and think you are ungrateful piece of garbage. A military is a necessity to every country and they all recruit. As much as you would like no defense - too bad.
29 :
Yo, liberal fool. I'm a retired Army recruiter and ran across idiots like you many times during my 18 years as a recruiter. First of all, you can't exclude the recruiters from public schools, unless you want the schools to close. The reason, they accept money from the US Government and have to accept recruiters as one of the terms of the funding. Since you want recruiters shut down, I suppose you are advocating the return of the draft, or more likely, the taking over of our country by another country. As for the rest of your second statement, Recruiters do not brainwash, nor do they recruit children, let alone recruit them for illegal wars, rape and torture (the soldiers who rape and torture would have done the same had they remained civilians) and what profit? Do you actually think recruiters are paid some form of bounty, if so you truly are an idiot. Instead of contacting anyone in an attempt to abolish military recruiting, why not just move your family and your own worthless a$$ to some nice, peaceful, neutral country and leave the job of being American to real Americans, not little pinko pussies such as yourself.
30 :
Cindy Sheehan, will you please stop writing this nonsense ! I thought you were trying to get Nancy Pelosi's job. ( I wish you luck )

If I were you (and I'm thankful that I'm not) I'd contact the ACLU and the American Communist Party. No, you've probably already got them on speed-dial. Not that you care - but your right to speak so stupidly is guaranteed by the blood of those who you condemn in your question.

Maybe.

maybe can they are not playing well this eyar.
3 :
As much as I like Washington and Tye Wilingham they have virtually no shot at winning this game. The Sooners are a far more powerful team in both running and they have a superior quarterback so no Washington will not be competitive. The final score will be 37 to 14. Washington will score because they are at home and they have a lot of heart and pride which will help them. The game will not end in victory for the west coast dawgs.

Yes OU will blow them out

OU shoud win easily,BUT. Stranger things have happened.

No and I will tell you why. What classes are required during 12th grade in Washington State?
I just started writing a novel and the characters live in Seattle, Washington. I'm writing the first chapter now and for description purposes I need to know what classes a normal senior in high school takes. Please help! Thanks! Oh, also, if you can tell me what tests are required to pass each class, that would be great! Do they have EOCT (End of Course Tests), or EOGT (End of Grade Tests)? Do they have any kind of college admittance test they need to take, like the Accuplacer? Thanks!

It depends on what classes they have taken in their previous years. If they have been slacking off, like me, then they would have to take a lot of classes from previous years to make up for all of the credits they missed. A student who is on track to graduating on time usually has: Communication Arts 12 (general English) (1 semester) Communication Arts Elective (can be calligraphy, creative writing, business writing, etc) (1 semester) Some kind of math (year-long) American Government (1 semester) Contemporary World Issues (1 semester) Some kind of science (year-long) Elective classes (Can be 4 different semester-long classes, 2 year-long classes, or 1 year-long class and 2 semester-long classes). Electives can be anything from P.E. to Drama to Choir to Photography to any kind of foreign language. There weren't any End of Course Tests or whatever the formal sounding thing is, because where I grew up, the teachers made their own tests. The college tests that are most commonly taken here would be the SAT and the ACT. AP Tests are only for Advanced Placement classes, which are given in May I think it is. That class after taking those AP tests get the rest of the school year to do whatever the teacher prefers.

Tell me about Seattle and Washington state...?
Seattle and Washington state look really interesting to me. I'm considering a move to Seattle to attend law school. I live near Austin, Texas now (my native state,) but have lived in Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee, also. Needless to say, I might be in for a culture shock, but that's okay--expands the horizons! Some questions: -I know Seattle is not the rainiest city; but, how warm does it usually get in the spring and summer? -I'm not a right-wing nut job from heck, but still a proud conservative; will Seattle be a friendly, open place to people like me? I've gotten mixed reactions about the "friendly" factor in Seattle. -I'm age 32, single, just broke up with fiance, love live music, and into jogging every morning. What makes Seattle, Seattle? (Not Pike Place or the Space Needle, but the local hangouts and establishments.) Thanks in advance for the help! *just broke up w/ female fiance. I'm straight (lol).

it is rainy in the summer and cold in the winter and has the highest suicide rate of any state because of the gloomy weather, other than that it is absolutely beautiful

The only way to find out is move there. Period. If you don't like it, move away.
3 :
I just moved where I'm at from nearby Tacoma (Seattle and Tacoma share the major airport), and have friends and relatives in Seattle. When I went up there, this is what I witnessed: Lots of busy people with business. Boeing, Microsoft, etc. Coffee shops are king. And not just Starbucks. Seattle downtown is crowded and expensive, like all the big cities. People usually live in a suburb and commute. That's why I liked living in Tacoma, though it's getting too big for its britches too. If you disliked traffic jams in the biggest city in the US without an Interstate belt (Austin, TX), you'll find the freeways are misnamed up there. Traffic jams abound everywhere. You'd think the drivers would be used to wet or snowy weather but it's a madhouse on the major freeways. Washington in general is behind on road repairs. Culture shock: Only 4 country and western stations on FM dial up and down Interstate 5 in Washington. You can hear two of them downtown, though. Temperature note: In 2005, the temperature in June went 88, 88, 89 during a three day span. The National Weather Service issued its first-ever heat advisory for Seattle on those last two days. Not kidding, Seattle's first ever heat warning since starting their NWS station in 1890. It rains ANY time, but the sunny days are up in the 70's and 80's in the summer. Winter, it rains every day, and the temperature that close to Canada is comparable to Canada. It snows. This past winter it snowed for maybe a week or two. You can find all the culture (live music, jogging, sports, theatre) you can stand up there.

Seattle is a great city but too cold for me, I rather stay here in sunny Florida..â˜Âº
5 :
When I first moved to Seattle in 1990, it was a spotlessly clean, very inexpensive city with hardly any traffic and lots of jobs. I moved away a few times to try other places and always returned here. Each time I came back, it was WAY more expensive, incredably more crowded, far fewer jobs and had gotten really dirty. A lot of the residential neighborhoods are still quite beautiful, with a huge abundance of beautiful trees and really lovely houses and gorgeous 1920s brick apartment buildings, but just try to afford one. There is NEVER anywhere to park on the streets, even if you do shell out the big bucks for a mandatory "zoned" sticker. Car insurance and registration fees have gone thru the roof! No matter where you go on any of the main streets, you will get asked for spare change or a cigarette every 20 feet... to the point you don't want to even leave your house. There are bums and homeless people sleeping in the doorways, all over the city every night. There is a HUGE meth and heroin problem here so there are lots and lots of homeless tweekers and junkies all over the place 24/7, either nodded off, zipping up and down the streets talking to themselves, eying your wallet, or panhandling very aggressively. Due to the no smoking law here, you must smoke outdoors. Now, walking along the street is like wading through an ashtray with the hundreds of thousands of cigarette butts in the streets, gutters and sidewalks. In the city and up here on Capitol Hill, EVERYTHING is covered with grafitti and stickers and wide marker srawls. It is really getting ugly. A lot of businesses have moved out either due to raised rents or being forced out by eminent domain so developers can tear down an entire block and build another 300 tiny condo units. More and more apartments are converting to condo. Good luck finding something under $250,000.00 that is more than 600 sq ft. When we moved back here from Kitsap County, (across the water) my car was stolen in less than a week, never to be recovered. So in retrospect, the main reasons why I moved here are gone now. It is just a filthy, expensive, drug infested city. Yes, there are still a lot of beautiful things here. The waterfront, parks, Seattle Center and the Space Needle, etc... but these things do not pay my bills or put food on the table. If you are really thinking of moving to this area... and don't mind an hour or more commute to the city, try Bremerton, across the water. It is very up and comeing and a lot less expensive... however you will be at the mercy of the Ferry schedule or have to sit in gridlocked traffic and pay a toll on the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge during your 1 hour plus drive.

I've lived in the Eastside area all of my life and go to the main University of Washington campus in Seattle. I'll break it down for you by category: COST OF LIVING The cost of living in the greater Seattle area (especially the Eastside) is rediculous. A tiny house with an equally tiny lawn will run you at least $300K if you're lucky. WA state sales tax is 6.5%, but local taxes in most of King County raise the sales tax rate to 8.9%. Tax on prepared food and beverages from establishments such as restaurants, bars, and coffee shops is 9.4%. I'm not entirely sure what the local taxes for Pierce County and Snohomish County are, which include Tacoma and Everett, respectively, but they aren't THAT much lower than King County. On the statewide level, however, there is NO state income tax (just like Texas), and most food items are not subjected to sales tax. Items such as pop, over-the-counter medicines, dietary supplements, etc. ARE taxed. Unfortunately, because there is no state income tax, property taxes are pretty high, especially when considering that real estate is NOT cheap. Take that into consideration. Here are some quick facts about taxes in WA: Sales tax: 6.5% statewide, plus local taxes on top of that Gasoline excise tax: $0.34 per gallon Cigarette tax: $2.03 per pack State income tax: none Check out this article: it's a pretty good read, and a bit of an eye-opener in some cases. WA state is ranked #4 in tax costs (which include federal, state, and local taxes). We're the only state in the top 10 with no state income tax. That's not good. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Taxes/Advice/TheBestAndWorstStatesForTaxes.aspx WEATHER The weather in Seattle has a reputation for being rainy, but in reality, it's not true. There are plenty of other cities than Seattle that rain MUCH more. However, the myth that it always rains in Seattle stems from the fact that the Seattle sky is overcast and gray 2/3 of the year. Other than that, Seattle has pretty predictable weather akin to what most people would expect from each season. Spring sees a lot of blue skies and sunshine, but it also rains a lot, too. Temps range from the low 40s all the way to the 70s and 80s (the past week has been beautiful). Summer is typically beautiful, clear blue skies, lots of green plants thanks to the rain from spring, and the temperatures usually range from the mid 60s all the way to the upper 90s (the summer of 2006 saw temperatures in the low 100s--for Seattle, that's a heatwave!) Summer in Seattle is truly hard to beat. BUT, it will rain occasionally, but of all the seasons, summer definitely has the best weather, and probably only rains for a combined total of two weeks from June to late September. Fall is fall, as one would expect. The leaves turn brown, the temperature drops, and the sky starts to become overcast more often. Winter, however, is truly hell. This is where WA gets its reputation for being rainy all the time. The sky is constantly gray, with very few days where the sun actually peeks out. And when the sun DOES peek out, it's still cold. Not as cold as Minnesota or Wisconsin or elsewhere in that area, but cold by our standards. Winter temperatures range anywhere from mid 20s to upper 40s, usually averaging in the high 30s/lower 40s. It doesn't snow too often in Western Washington, we maybe only get two or three snow days throughout the entire winter, but every few years or so we see significant snowfall. In fact, the period between November 2006 and January 2007 was some of the most miserable weather ever. It rained for 21 straight days in November, then it snowed for two or three days at the end of the month, then a serious windstorm caused significant damage and knocked out power to over 1 million people (some for over a week) in mid-December right before Christmas. Then we had another week of snowfall in January. KEEP IN MIND, however, that's NOT the norm for Seattle. We most certainly see far less snowfall than a state such as Wisconsin or upstate NY, but it DOES happen every six or seven years or so (the snowfall, that is). TRANSPORTATION This one is easy. IT SUCKS. There are only three major freeways into Seattle: I-5, I-90, and WA-520. Don't even bother with I-5 during rush hour, it's a guaranteed backup for miles. 520 is just as bad. I regularly see westbound 520 backed up from Bellevue all the way into Seattle (over five miles of stop and go traffic). I-90 is probably the least worst, but even THAT one bottlenecks at inopportune places. On top of all that, the drivers in WA state are idiots. They're slow, timid, and they don't pay attention. If I had a nickel for every time I got stuck behind some dipshit in a Lexus SUV doing 5 under the speed limit, I could probably afford to buy a house in Seattle. Oh, and let's not forget that it's not at all uncommon to see people driving around with their blinkers on. It's rediculous. Driving in the Eastside area is a necessity, because the mass transportation system (Metro, SoundTransit, etc) isn't all that great. Competent, but it could certainly be improved. Unfortunately, it's a necessity made difficult by stupid drivers and roads in dire need of repair (I-5 south of Tukwila is probably the worst paved road I've ever driven on). SCENERY WA state kicks ass for scenery. I've got nothing bad to say about it at all. One of the most beautiful states in terms of geography. POLITICS Seattle itself is a fairly liberal city, but sometimes too liberal for its own good. The mayor, Greg Nickels, is a male, but I'm pretty sure he has female genitals. Under his rule, Seattle has passed inane laws that leave even liberals scratching their heads. As of sometime earlier this month, you cannot buy malt liquor within Seattle city limits. If you're craving a 40oz of Olde English, you gotta go outside the city. Supposedly, it's supposed to help clean up the homeless problem, but I highly doubt it will have the slightest effect. Whether you're a drinker or not, given that you state you're a proud conservative, such a law should seem outrageously big-brotherish. Personally, I'm a proud moderate that draws equally from both liberal and conservative agendas. To me, this law is just totally rediculous. Oh, and before I forget, the strip clubs in Seattle and the immediate area pale in comparison to strip clubs in other states. You cannot buy alcohol in them (this is true statewide, thanks to the fascist Washington State Liquor Control Board--yes, that's right, WA state holds a monopoly on all hard liquor and liqueurs, and thus beverages of this sort must be purchased directly from the state), and previously, for a little less than a year, Greg Nickels and company passed a law that required strip clubs to improve their lighting, banned direct tipping to strippers, and worst of all, required stripper-customer contact to be at least four feet away. In other words, no lap dances, no ANYTHING that makes a strip club a strip club. Thankfully, the voters repealed this absurd law back in the last general election (November 2006). Outside of Seattle, namely the Eastside, the politics tend to lean libertarian. I highly doubt that most residents in the Eastside are actually wealthy, since they probably spend all of their high incomes on luxury homes and luxury cars, and thus cannot afford to actually invest their money wisely. Nevertheless, because of the supposed wealth of the Eastside, the politics tend to be fiscally conservative, while social issues tend to be fairly liberal. Given that you live in Austin right now, were you to move to Seattle, you shouldn't feel too out of place, as I understand that Austin is fairly similar--that is to say, I've heard from several sources that Austin has a pretty strong counterculture and libertarian following, too. Since you claim not to be a total conservative whackjob, though, you'll be fine. If you WERE a conservative whackjob, that's what Idaho is for :-) Bottom line for this topic: Seattle itself is a total nanny state. Inane laws passed by total left-wing liberal whackjobs that are just as bad as laws passed by right-wing conservative whackos in other states. The Eastside is somewhat better. MISC You stated that you like to jog in the morning. You're in luck, because there are plenty of joggers to be seen day-round here. Supposedly Seattle is one of the fittest cities in the nation. I don't know the veracity of that, but it might be true. You also stated that you just broke up with your fiance. Well, the women in Seattle leave a lot to be desired, really. Unless you live close to the UW, which has a ton of hot chicks, the women in Seattle are typically either chunky or they've got hot bodies but ugly faces. If you're a chubby-chaser or don't mind "butterfaces", you'll be fine. There's a coffee shop or four on every street corner. Literally. In the suburbs, in addition to stand-alone shops, drive-thru coffee stands are everywhere. Make no mistake about people in Seattle drinking a lot of coffee--it's no stereotype, it's the truth. Coffee is delicious. If you like it, you'll be right at home. If you don't like it, that doesn't mean you won't be right at home, but it DOES mean you'll have to smell it every five feet. SUMMARY So, all in all, the scenery is great, the coffee is great, the weather is awesome in the summer, but the people, transportation, politics (for the most part), the weather (except summer and most of spring), and the cost of living leave a lot to be desired. Aunt Ida's response above is equally accurate, just a bit more blunt and concise :-)

My sister lived there for several years. In Seattle. She wants to move back very much- now has a kid and a divorce so she is stuck in Michigan. Funny thing when my mom went to visit she never once saw the mountain..too foggy. I went a week later and it was beautiful. Lots of tree huggers, Vegan's, dread-locks, hippies and the like. We went camping in the mountains- and had a great time. I think there is a lot to do outdoors if your into it. Seattle is know for coffee. Drive up coffee huts, coffee sold on corners, coffee everywhere. If you don't like coffee-forget it.

I moved here from the Bremerton area, across the water from Seattle. You would never get me to live in Seattle. It's a great place to visit though. I would recommend living somewhere else and commuting if you can. WA. isn't perfect by any means, but it does have its good points and the scenery is great!

Those who attended UW school of business in seattle. please answer my question.?
i will soon apply for the school of business at the University of washington in seattle and the school of business. therefore, i was wondering what question did they ask you to write your essay on when you apply to UW school of business? the reason for this is because i want to have time to prepare. thx p.s. i know this question suppose to go under education, but nobody answers. Therefore, i decided it to put it under dating and relationship category because there are more active people under this category. Note: 1) this question is regarding the admission for the school of business, not the admission for the UW campus. 2) i heard that during this process you have 2 hours and you have to go to the campus to write your essay.

Is University of Washington (Seattle) a good pre-med school?

Let's get something straight here: Washington University (WashU) in St. Louis is a private college, like Harvard or Yale; and it does have one of the top medical schools in the country. The University of Washington (UW) in Seattle is a public school like any other "State" school. They are not affiliated. Both are fine schools; just WashU's medical school is ranked higher than UW. You do not have to go to the same school for pre-med as medical school; and my experience from taking pre-med classes at a large state school is that the classes are very, very competitive. The difference would be having 800 in your state school organic chemistry class vs.100 in organic chem at a private University.

Either school would be great for premed; it doesn't matter if the school you attend for premed has a med school or not. Premed classes are in the bio, chem, physics, math, and English departments, not the medical school. And you can apply to any med school after doing premed anywhere.

thats tough because UM has a superior business program but 24k extra in loans is a huge sum and the difference in salary post graduation will probablly depend more on your internship, work experience, gpa, and interviewing prowess. I'd go UW, its still a good school

I don't think it is so much that these people migrated here as it is that those who were already here were accepted and supported in ways that many communities do not. People are generally allowed to be themselves in Seattle. Its part of what makes the city one of the most livable in the county.

The University of Washington is one of the best public universities in the US. US News ranks it at #42 -- making it a very good school. It will be academically challenging -- but the business world will reward that. I've only been to Seattle a few times. It reminds me of what San Francisco would be like if you raised the buildings, got rid of the people & plopped Minneapolis down on it -- if that makes any sense. It is a beautiful city with nice people. It is a bit coffee crazy, though.
2 :
UW is a really good school. Most of the students are absorbed by local companies like Microsoft, Amazon Boeing etc. Seattle is a good and unique place to be in. Lots of things to do and if you are an outdoor person, Seattle is the place to be in. You can go skii, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, climbing etc or just about anything all in a perimeter of 40 miles. People are really nice and cultured and it relatively safer than most of US metropolis. Seattle has the most educated people in US and you will see the difference vis other cities Weather is kind of average, it snows 2 to 5 times a year and that too is modest (1-5 inches usually), there are no crazy storms to deal with. It rains a lot usually in the form of drizzle but rainy season sticks around for 7-8 months. Summers are really nice in Seattle, max temperature in summer is usually in between 70-90F. It rarely gets above 90 in a year (usually 2-8 times). Winters are mild too comapared to most of US. Day temperatures in winter are always in 30-50 F. If you are ok with few weeks of bright sunshine and lots of clouds then seattle is the best place in US.

is it legal to use a switch knife as self-defense in the state of washington, specifically seattle?

is it legal to use a switch knife as self-defense in the state of washington, specifically seattle?
I carry my switch-blade only at night, particularly when I am walking home from school at 3 in the morning. Would I be in great trouble if I ever used it in self-defense? I dont mean using it against someone who wants to jack my ipod but rather in response to realy physical threat. Does seattle police enforce the no possession laws or do they excuse it? I'm not a hoodlum that would be involved in any type of crime; I just want the choice to use it when necessary. What do you think about carrying one around? walking home from work at 3 am, not school. Washington: (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display, or draw any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons. (3) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to or affect the following: (c) Any person acting for the purpose of protecting himself or herself against the use of presently threatened unlawful force by another, or for the purpose of protecting another against the use of such unlawful force by a third person; That says its legal if it's in self-defense right?

It is illegal to carry a switch blade on your person, or in your vehicle IN THE USA! It's federal law. If you get stopped and searched, you will go to jail. =
3 :
switch blade is illegal and also in some states (such as Oregon) carrying a knife with a blade more than 3" is illegal regardless of the release mechanism.
4 :
You can use anything in a self defense action, including an illegal and unregistered gun...anywhere in the USA. Protection of your life is paramount and it only has to be the impression that you are to be attacked, no actual attack needs to take place. First strike is legal....and preferred. Lethal force is preferred. No warning shots or wounding. Best if they are cold afterwards. Like Israel bombing Lebanon or USA killing suspects, you only have to think there may be a threat....do you feel lucky? Shoot now and ask questions of the next of kin later. Tragic but true.
5 :
its illegal to carry a knife with the blade larger than the palm of your hand, but in self defense, a regular legal knife can do alot of damage if you know how to use it right, but remember in self defense of what ever you use u must prove in court that you felt beyond a resonable doubt that deadly force was being used against you and you feared for you life.
6 :
Why cant you get a ride?
7 :
What makes you think you will be able to protect yourself with that blade. Get training in self defense. It is also good exercise. Maybe they can teach you to use a gun responsibly. Without training don't carry and don't walk around without a co worker or someone else. Trust your instincts and use your common sense. Sounds like you need to be careful and take precautions. Be safe!
8 :
All switch-blades are illegal through out the US. Heres a few tips regarding knives: Avoid using spring blades (i.e. switchblades, stilettos) when knife fighting. They are inherently dangerous for the following reasons: (1) The internal spring can malfunction in a time of need; (2) The structural integrity of the knife is usually poor; (3) The hand grips are usually too thin and often slippery; (4) They look menacing and have a criminal stigma attached to them. Remember, if your knife fighting altercation is later taken to court, the jury will not look unfavorably at you even though you may have been justified in killing your adversary.

Keep the comments coming in. Thanks! The aforementioned comment also has to do with the fact that I posted this same question in Polls & Surveys forum. So, between this and P&S, I've received a lot of great feedback.

I moved here from California. I live on the 'Eastside' of Lake Washington in Redmond, home of Microsoft. The Seattle area is like many other metropolitan areas, a collection of neighborhoods ranging from the residential to the light industrial, the quirky to the blue collar to the yuppies, surrounded by a collection of suburban towns. Green Lake Park and West Seattle are two of the more popular places for Seattlites to see and be seen on warm sunny days. Speaking of weather, it may not get the most measurable rainfall in the country, but don't be fooled. It does rain a lot. It's usually more of a medium to heavy mist or light rain. You'll learn the difference between partly sunny and partly cloudy. Currently, the temperature has been around the high 40's to mid 50's. When summer hits, it'll soar into the 80's. Once it hits 80, natives will complain of impending heat stroke. We do have conservatives in Seattle, but this is a liberal town. If you don't wear your conservatism on your sleeve, you'll be fine. Seattle is notorious for it's singles scene. Long considered awful, people have always managed to find each other. There are lots of places to meet, have a drink and listen to music. The University of Washington is called the U Dub. When you hear that the mountain is out, that means you can see Mt Raini.e.r. The Native American names can be tricky to pronounce, ie. Sequim is pronounced Skwim. I learned a lot about the area by watching Almost Live, a local sketch comedy show that you might be able to find on You Tube. Good Luck.

Be prepared to meet lots of skinny people who wear black, red eyeshadow and smoke clove cigarettes, wear 1980s Goth hair with pink in it ,and have 15 roommates. The girls are like that too. Check Portland OR. That will be my next stop when my outrageously expensive lease ends on my teeeeeeeny tiny apartment.

That's funny because I grew up in Seattle, and then moved to Austin about 5 years ago. Pretty much you can expect 40-60 degrees year-round as far as the weather. And it is a rainy place, but it's not really "rain". It's mostly just misty all the time. Jogging everyday might be hard to do every morning in the rain (guaranteed that it will be raining/misting 85% of all mornings) Seattle is definitely not as friendly as the South, but it's not a horrible place to live either. I'm generally a conservative person as well, and I survived just fine. You'll be fine. It's definitely populated, and pretty expensive to live, but it sure is beautiful. It truly is a gorgeous place to see, and if you don't move there I definitely recommed a visit. The thing that I love the most about Seattle is the general "vibe" of the city. It's hard to explain, but it's definitely got a hippy/granola feel to it. I'm definitely not a granola girl by any means, but I still appreciate it. I also enjoy the nature and Native American sides that Seattle has to offer. The only reason that I don't plan to move back is that I really enjoy the warm weather and getting to do things outdoors year-round. It also seems to be a little too congested for me. There are people EVERYWHERE there, and it just seems to be getting more crowded. Anyway, hope my little tidbits help!

hi i just read your interest in seattle.. this might come to you on the late side. but would be interested in answering any question you may have regarding the state of Washington in the seattle area. I am a native to this area. And ,if you have any questions what so ever I may be able to help you ....Let me know. As far as living in the northwest, it has many option.such as, boating fishing, hiking, site seeing , bike trails river rafting, well, its endless. the people here, i think are some what friendly. ( You can ask what time is it and they dont seem to bite your head of, per say) There is a lot of diversity here.. such as different cultures, language , fine arts ect seattle is now rated to be listed as the # 3rd place to live in the states. i think its is because of so much flexibility that is offered here...the terrain is up and down as oppose to very flat. the weather now is mild in the lower 50s now , but may very some up to maybe around 60 or so in the spring time.. Some days are not all sunny or all rainy.. the weather does very to one extreme to the other.. kinda teases you thinking that it might be sunny, then Kaboom! It will change.. but, over all getting use to that... its nice to be here in the northwest. like i said if you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to send me your questions and i will reply. hopefully this will help some... sincerely, Lace

Washington is a very beautiful and friendly state(unless I'm just saying that cuz i live here, lol!) but anyway i live in Skagit county which is bout 45min. away from Seattle and i go there ALL the time.it is a very interesting city, especially if u love live music cuz there is so many bums playing there music on like every single street.it is a very peaceful place to just rome around on the streets. so bout the weather, winter is like around 40 or 45 degrees and in the summer it is in the 70's or 80's and yes people in Seattle often complain bout that being too hot, lol. its really not that bad but in the winter they get like an inch of snow which everyone totally freaks out about!!! the rain isn't that bad either(it rains most in fall and winter) after all it is just rain! its not gonna hurt ya. in spring the rain calms down and it slowly starts to turn into summer, it usually NEVER rains in the summer but every once in awhile it does. and no not everyone is exactly "friendly" but over all i would say that it is a nice place to live. if u do decide to move there i would suggest going to the beach or just walking around the town is really fun but the space needle and pike place are both 2 historical landmarks that ya just gotta go see. well hope this helped!!!

blahblah blah!!!! Seattle is really a very cool place to live, I've lived here my whole life and plan to move away, but eventually this is where I intend to stay! ya it rains, but global warming!! haha... summers are very warm and very sunny! it is beautiful on the water, thereis a lot of stuff to do here, bars, clubs, music (a lot of major bands hit Seattle because it is SEATTLE!!!!) and we have great local music too. check out Studio Seven, The Showbox, The Crocodile Cafe and soo many more. By the way, I grew up at the Pike Place market and have worked there for several years, it's great for grocery shopping and I know several locals who do hteir shopping at Pike Place!!! don't diss it, it's basically the only fresh produce market you will find in the downtown Seattle area. also great people. Seattle may be liberal, but for the most part we are more than happy to listen to other peoples opinions and respect them as you respect ours!! Good luck!!!

its a great place to live, although a little pricey. i live around there myself. Greenlake/Wallingford area is one of if not the most safe place to live around there. i dont want to sound redundant so ive decided that you should just remember this little sidenote: There are lots on nice suburbs around there too, so you aren't just limited to Seattle.

Here is a website of average weather in the spring and summer here in Seattle http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sew/summer06web.php I think that this is the best site to read about Seattle.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle,_Washington

What should I pack for a school trip to Washington DC?

What should I pack for a school trip to Washington DC?
So for school we have a trip to DC from Seattle and I was wondering what I should pack clothes-wise. The trip is going to be in spring time (late March, early April) and I don't know the weather there. The trip in about 5 days and 4 nights long. The principal says we walk everywhere so comfy clothes, I'm guessing? If you could give me a list of what you would pack, that would be great. Thanks, Aisha Grace

Comfortable clothes for sure. Dress in layers, since April in the nation's capital has a tendency to be either really hot or really cold, and it's hard to tell which one you'll get on a given day.

I don't see any reason you couldn't get in, those are very nice credentials ... It's a very nice school. Great pick! Good luck!

These qualifications make a solid application. But there are no guarantees. Much will depend on whether you applying from in state or out of state, how many other applications they get this year, how your application essay sounds, and maybe also what your intended major is. But with these details I'd certainly put in an application!

When does the University of Washington book buy back for high school students start?

When does the University of Washington book buy back for high school students start?
It's getting kind of close to the end of the year now, when will the UW bookstore in Seattle start buying back high school textbooks?

I'm sorry, "Why would a University buy "back" high school text books? What would be the purpose? The university text books cost way more and the material is more towards post-secondary learning. Also, to buy "back" text books would imply that the university sold the text books in the first place.

How hard is it to get into the University of Washington in Seattle?

How hard is it to get into the University of Washington in Seattle?
I plan to apply this university, but I am a concerned about the fact that I live in another state. I know that they don't accept as many out of state students and it usually is harder for a out of state student to get in. Has anyone gotten into this school from another state? and if so, how were your grades and also standardized test scores?

i applied this fall and got in. I'm from Oregon by the way. I had a SAT score of 2050 and GPA of 3.8. Don't worry though, i think my stats are a tad above average at their school. Average overall for their school is SAT score of around 1800 and GPA of 3.7

those who attend UW school of business in seattle. please answer my question.?
i will soon apply for the school of business at the University of washington in seattle. Therefore, i was wondering what question did they ask you to write your essay on. Note: 1) this question is regarding the admission for the school of business, not the admission for the UW campus. 2) i heard that during this process you have 2 hours and you have to go to the campus to write your essay.

Looking to attend Argosy University in Seattle Washington?

Looking to attend Argosy University in Seattle Washington?
I am looking to attend this University to become a counselor. I am wanting to get my Bachelors and Masters Degree. I have had phone conferences with some of their reps and it sounds like a great school. However, I am just wondering how much they are sugar coating everything. It is a very expensive school and I don't want to waste my money. If anyone has had experience with this college how was your experience? Worth the money? I would appreciate ANY advice- thanks!

You asked an intelligent question. It is always wise to investigate before committing money and time. Argosy is a for-profit proprietary school. This means that its mission is to make money for its owners, which is why it is so expensive. Proprietary schools are usually given little or no respect by other colleges and employers. You will get a better education for much less money in your state's public system of higher education, even if you need to start at a public community college before going on to a state college or university. Any school which has (sales) reps is probably a proprietary school. Non-profit schools, public and private, have admissions officers. Best wishes.
