How hard is it to get into the University of Washington in Seattle?
I plan to apply this university, but I am a concerned about the fact that I live in another state. I know that they don't accept as many out of state students and it usually is harder for a out of state student to get in. Has anyone gotten into this school from another state? and if so, how were your grades and also standardized test scores?

i applied this fall and got in. I'm from Oregon by the way. I had a SAT score of 2050 and GPA of 3.8. Don't worry though, i think my stats are a tad above average at their school. Average overall for their school is SAT score of around 1800 and GPA of 3.7

i got into that university, i had an average SAT score and 3.6 gpa but i also had college credits because i am taking college in high school. i think it is semi-easy to get into

| is it legal to use a switch knife as self-defense in the state of washington, specifically seattle? I carry my switch-blade only at night, particularly when I am walking home from school at 3 in the morning. Would I be in great trouble if I ever used it in self-defense? I dont mean using it against someone who wants to jack my ipod but rather in response to realy physical threat. Does seattle police enforce the no possession laws or do they excuse it? I'm not a hoodlum that would be involved in any type of crime; I just want the choice to use it when necessary. What do you think about carrying one around? walking home from work at 3 am, not school. Washington: (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to carry, exhibit, display, or draw any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon apparently capable of producing bodily harm, in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons. (3) Subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to or affect the following: (c) Any person acting for the purpose of protecting himself or herself against the use of presently threatened unlawful force by another, or for the purpose of protecting another against the use of such unlawful force by a third person; That says its legal if it's in self-defense right? Period. 2 : It is illegal to carry a switch blade on your person, or in your vehicle IN THE USA! It's federal law. If you get stopped and searched, you will go to jail. = 3 : switch blade is illegal and also in some states (such as Oregon) carrying a knife with a blade more than 3" is illegal regardless of the release mechanism. 4 : You can use anything in a self defense action, including an illegal and unregistered gun...anywhere in the USA. Protection of your life is paramount and it only has to be the impression that you are to be attacked, no actual attack needs to take place. First strike is legal....and preferred. Lethal force is preferred. No warning shots or wounding. Best if they are cold afterwards. Like Israel bombing Lebanon or USA killing suspects, you only have to think there may be a threat....do you feel lucky? Shoot now and ask questions of the next of kin later. Tragic but true. 5 : its illegal to carry a knife with the blade larger than the palm of your hand, but in self defense, a regular legal knife can do alot of damage if you know how to use it right, but remember in self defense of what ever you use u must prove in court that you felt beyond a resonable doubt that deadly force was being used against you and you feared for you life. 6 : Why cant you get a ride? 7 : What makes you think you will be able to protect yourself with that blade. Get training in self defense. It is also good exercise. Maybe they can teach you to use a gun responsibly. Without training don't carry and don't walk around without a co worker or someone else. Trust your instincts and use your common sense. Sounds like you need to be careful and take precautions. Be safe! 8 : All switch-blades are illegal through out the US. Heres a few tips regarding knives: Avoid using spring blades (i.e. switchblades, stilettos) when knife fighting. They are inherently dangerous for the following reasons: (1) The internal spring can malfunction in a time of need; (2) The structural integrity of the knife is usually poor; (3) The hand grips are usually too thin and often slippery; (4) They look menacing and have a criminal stigma attached to them. Remember, if your knife fighting altercation is later taken to court, the jury will not look unfavorably at you even though you may have been justified in killing your adversary. |

Note: 1) this question is regarding the admission for the school of business, not the admission for the UW campus. 2) i heard that during this process you have 2 hours and you have to go to the campus to write your essay.

what is a good seattle public school?
i am looking for a good public middle school for my daughter. we are located in Seattle, washington. the school has to have good, educated teachers. because my daughter is a very very smart student; above average. also the children should be kind. she was in a public school before but the students were extremely rough. dose anyone know of any public middle schools that are really really good? ( 7th grade) thanks for all your help! :)

-Please consider education, safety, violence, etc. -IT CAN BE PRIVATE! Also, which district is the best for high school? I have heard of Bellevue, is Shoreline also a good district?

First of all, Bellevue isn't in Seattle, Bellevue is it's own city. You have to attend the district in which you live anyway, it isn't up to you.

Well, probably the best school in the area is Lakside, in Shoreline. It's private. Bellevue and Northshore school districts are good, as is Mercer Island school district. I recommend looking at the districts and schools in the Seattle times school guide, here: http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/schoolguide/ In general, you'll find that the schools with the better scores and lower number of reduced and free lunches are usually in better neighborhoods with less violence. Just keep in mind that you can get a good education at an "OK" school, you can have great teachers at schools that don't rank highly here, and you can always have an awful teacher at the "best" school. So much depends on the kid and the relationship with the teacher.

Well Northshore is an excellent district.. But if you are looking into a private school in Seattle, or relatively nearby, look into Seattle Academy, it is a private, academically strong 1A school. If you are looking for a public school in the Kirkland/Bellevue area, look into Lake Washington, Bellevue, Interlake, or Lake Sammamish. Interlake and Bellevue are the "better" of those schools in that district... If you are looking into the Northshore district, Bothell, Woodinville, and Inglemoor would be your best options for public school. But if you are looking in the area of Christian/Religious schools, Kings (in Shoreline), Bellevue Christian (Bellevue/Medina), Eastside Catholic (Renton-ish), and Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) would be good options for you. All the former private schools have strong academics and are all 1A schools, except for Eastside Catholic, which is a 3A. The schools in the Northshore district are all 4A schools with fairly strong academics. Bothell is however known as the "sex school", and Woodinville is known as "the pharmacy", and Inglemoor is a combination of both. Good luck deciding. Take care.

I have over 150 community service hours at several organizations I'm a senior taking all college credit courses and have a high gpa this year scored a 23 on the ACT was a varsity soccer captain and played all 4 years and received several honors my essay is pretty good i think

Your GPA is really low, but your activities really make up for it. If your essay is good, I think you have a really good chance. I was kind of the opposite. I got accepted with a 3.8-ish GPA, 1720 SAT, and one club which I was in for 3 years. Also under 10 hours of community service. Good luck. For certain reasons when I got accepted I rejected it, but now I'm going to try to come back and hope they'll accept me this time. But only 28% of their admitted transfers per year come from 4 yr universities.

It's worth it to try and apply. A 3.0 is a bit low to enter UW as a freshman, but who knows, maybe you will get lucky!

You would have to ask at your school. I would think your credits would transfer, but that's something specific to the school you're currently attending. Ask them.

Just wait. If you transfer, some of your credits from your current school now may not transfer to WHERE EVER you want to go. I moved in my senior year as well and the schools have different requirements. Just stay and stick it out. It is not like you got a couple years left, which makes a huge difference.

Probably not, but furthermore, why would you want to??? Seattle is the crappiest city around. One of the happiest days of my adult life was the day I threw all my crap in my car and drove 15 hours back down to California. Seriously, don't bother

I'm going to grad school to get my masters in either school counseling or psychology, but I can't decide between University of Washington or Seattle Pacific University. HELP!!!

I'd go with University of Washington, no doubt. It has the #1 ranked clinical psychology program in the country and #13 in general psychology. Beyond that, it has better a better "national brand." That is, outside of the Pacific Northwest many people have not heard of Seattle Pacific University whereas everyone knows that University of Washington is a very good school.
