I currently am in the point in my life where I have to choose where to go to school. I have heard good things about the University of Washiongton Seattle and would like to know if its a good school to go to. I know next to nothingabout Seattle though besides the whole "it rains a lot". I want to know more about it by hearing it from people who acutally live in or ahve been to Seattle. So... 1) What's the nightlife like? 2)What's the weather really like? 3( What's the Universtiy of Washington Seattle like? 4) How expenive are apartments? 4) What are the people like? Are they similar to people in the San Francisco area? 5) Is there any chance in thriving in the city if you are a doctor or if you are looking for a job in filming? Photography/movie making etc. 6) What sort of stuff is there to do in Seattle? If you could even answer one of these questions it would help!!!!

As a graduate of the UW, I can tell you that the University of Washington is one of the best schools around, it has been ranked one of the best in the world. I really enjoyed my time there, however keep in mind its a huge school, about 40,000 students now. -The nightlife in Seattle isn't very good if you are under 21, options are very limited. -The weather can be more cloudy than rainy, with light drizzle or sprinkes for part of the days from about Late Sept to June. Summers are usually nice and warm, just not this year. -Apartments can be expensive, but near the UW there are lots of options. -The people are nice, not as extreme as in San Francisco. Not as open, nor as tolerant as in SF with regards to certain issues. Currenty the city has taken issue with night clubs and has been trying to shut down many, also there has been issues regarding Strip clubs, namely the city doesn't want them around at all. Other places wouldn't care. -Not so sure about filming, but the city is getting very expensive so you would have to be a Doctor to be able to live here, or a Computer engineer. -When it isn't raining in Seattle, you can go hiking, camping, biking. Even when it is raining, you can go shopping, Hang out in a cafe, movies, to Vancouver BC. Pretty much the same things as in any other city, not really many unique opportunities here.

Seattle is GREAT. The UW medical school is one of the best. Leaders in medical research. Seattle has A LOT of options. Best thing is to live in outlying areas...a lot cheaper. It also pays to get to know someone that is also planning on attending the UW and split the rent on an apartment. There are so many different things to do. You don't have to be 21 in order to have a good time. Pike Place Market is wonderful, lots of cafes, coffee shops, shopping. Seattle is close to all kinds of activities, like mountain climbing, oceans, hiking, bike trails, etc. Whatever activity you like, something is almost always within less than an hour drive from Seattle. The traffic can be a BIT**, but it is a beautiful city. Yes, in Fall-Spring can be a little rainy, but that is why we are called "The Evergreen State." Summers are usually pretty decent. A little cloudy this, year, but we have had our share of hot days at around 100 degrees. Snow is not usually much of a problem, except for last Winter. We got hit pretty hard. Hopefully it isn't like that this year. Give Seattle a chance. I guarantee that you will love it. 9 out of 10 Californians do!!!

1)I'm underage, so I wouldn't know. 2)The weather is really nice in the summer, around 70 most of the time, but in the winter it gets really rainy and cold, but not too cold. Sometimes it snows but that's pretty rare. 3)I don't know what the UW is like, but I hear it's a VERY good school, that's where I plan to go. It's the best one in the state. 4) Apartments can be VERY pricey now. I'm not sure exactly how much, you'll have to look it up at John L. Scott, a local real eastate agency, but they're not cheap. Most people, I have heard, live in a dorm on campus. 5) If you are a doctor, yeah, definitely. There are quite a few hospitals, and cancer research centers. Seattle is full of health nuts. Photography, yes as well. There is such an amazing mix of landscapes, water ways, architecture etc. You would have no problem finding that kind of stuff here. You mean film as in movies? You would be better off to go to Vancouver, B.C. for that. I know that's called the Hollywood of the North. 6)There's plenty to do in Seattle. Just down the hill from the U is University village, full of shops and other stuff. There's also Pike Place Market, which is where you can find everything from Turkish Delight to a balloon Platypus to a donut the size of your face. (I've personally seen all of those).

To answer your question about the filming industry in Seattle, it's a nice place to start out, take some classes, film some small projects, build up a resume, get experience etc. Some film schools include the Art Institute of Seattle, Lake Washington Technical College, and the UW's Digital Arts and Experimental Media. Also, Microsoft is a huge company based up here with ties to the media industry (I've been to their studio, it's NICE). There have been quite a few films shot here, but it's not anything major like LA or NY. There's plenty of small scale stuff, however, if you are really serious then I'd say LA would be a lot better.
